Detailed Maps of South Australian Regions

SA Regions

SA Regions, Highlighted Map (Metro area outlined in red, everything outside of this area is Regional)

Regional Development Australia (RDA)

RDA is an Australian Government initiative that brings together all levels of government to support the development of regional Australia. It's funded by the Australian Government and by state, territory and local governments in some jurisdictions. They include a map of the SA Regions, and you can drill down into council / state initiatives that benefit / impact the SA Regions within their resource database.

Regional Look-up Tools

There are a couple of different search engines we can use to determine whether a place is Regional or not.

Health Workforce Locator

It might seem odd to use a tool built for the healthcare industry, but the data is pulled directly from the Government of South Australia guidelines (which are reflected in the above map / postcode list).

When using this tool, select "Modified Monash Model 2019", then pop the address in the "Find Address" search bar:

It will throw up a map that looks like this:

Under "Modified Monash" it will provide you with a code from MM1 to MM7. Any area classified as MM2 to MM7 is a Regional area. The map is colour coded, with the legend in the bottom-right corner.
The above image uses Gawler as an example, which you can see is classified as metro.

Brilliant Migration Regional Area Calculator for South Australia

Another tool, but this one pulls the same data in a different way.

Under "Region" it will advise which region the town / postcode is located. This tool also provides more information about the town / postcode etc. that you might find useful.

Note: If the area is NOT regional, it will show as a variation of Adelaide (i.e. McLaren Vale will show as Adelaide - South, Gawler will show as Adelaide - North etc.)
