Welcome to the Adelaide Fringe, Australia's biggest arts festival! We're an open-access festival, meaning we provide a platform for independent artists. We don't curate shows or manage venues. You have the creative freedom to create and present your work however you choose.

Key Considerations for Your Fringe Season

Before you dive in, it’s a good idea to think through some key elements of your participation. Taking part in the Fringe is a fantastic experience, but it requires careful planning to make sure it's right for you and your show. Be realistic about the challenges and risks involved, and remember our team is here to help you navigate them.

  • Travel time: For our international artists flying from places like the United Kingdom, flights to Adelaide typically take between 24 and 30 hours. Factor this travel time into your schedule and budget.
  • Accommodation: Adelaide gets incredibly busy during Fringe. We highly recommend you start looking for accommodation six to eight months before the festival begins, particularly if you have specific needs or a tight budget.
  • Show run length: While the run length for shows varies, most international artists find it's more cost-effective to stay for the majority of the festival rather than just a few nights. This allows you to build momentum and attract a larger audience.

Getting Started: Your Essential Checklist

Ready to get your show on the road? Here are the key steps to follow:

  1. Show Registration: Sign up on our Artist and Venue Registration (AVR) platform. There's no deadline, but register by October 30, 2025, to be included in the printed guide.
  2. Finding a Venue: We have a Venue Finder tool which opens with Venue Registration. Start reaching out to venues ASAP.
  3. Budgets: Aim for a breakeven of 20-25% of your potential box office.
  4. Marketing: With 1,400+ shows, good images, a snappy description, and knowing your audience are crucial. Check our AVR Marketing blog.

Information for International Participants

If you plan to be paid for your performances, you will need a Temporary Activity visa (subclass 408) in the Entertainment Activities stream. The good news is that Adelaide Fringe is a registered charity, and we can provide you with a letter of support to waive the application fee. To get this assistance, just be sure to tick the "visa assistance" box when you register your show on the AVR platform. Our team will then be in touch to guide you through the next steps.
