What Is Host An Artist?
Every year, South Australians open their doors to artists from all over the world through Host an Artist. Last year, 76 locals made a little room for Fringe.
Many artists balance tight budgets against venue, travel and technical costs, so a place to stay can decide whether their show makes it to the biggest arts festival in the country. That's where you come in.
Got a spare room, a granny flat or a place that's empty over summer? Side effects of hosting may include new friends from across the globe, insider show recommendations and a housemate who can juggle.
So, got a room? Register to Host An Artist in 2027.
What Can You Offer?
You don’t have to be Jay Gatsby to be a great host. With Host An Artist, you can decide how involved you’d like to be, whether that’s sharing a meal and showing them around town or simply offering a comfortable, welcoming place to stay.
No one is expecting a five-star resort, but if you have a spare room in your apartment or house, you can register your space on our Artists and Venue Registration platform.
Artists will liaise directly with you about any questions or needs they have, so you can work out the details together.
How Do You Register To Become A Host?
Simply register a Host Account on our Artists & Venues Registration Platform, and away you go! For a step-by-step process, check out our handy guide below.
The AVR sign up is easy-to-use, and allows you to set expectations straight.
TIP: Since a lot of our artists come from other states, it would be rather kind to list nearby attractions and other details that you think would help an artist decide whether your offering would suit them.
We would also request you to be mindful of the artists' limitations and set rental rates accordingly.
How To Get Started
Step 1: Sign in to AVR or Create an Account
Step 2: Head on over to Start A Registration and select Host an Artist
STEP 3: Fill out the following categories as best as you can
TIP: This form is the best opportunity to be crystal clear about your offerings and expectations.
Previously handled via one-time paperforms, the shift to listing your accommodation on AVR now creates a secure, permanent, and easy to use format that can be updated in real-time. The goal is that AVR will make it easier for both the artists and you.
For the artist, AVR will assist in finding your accommodation based on their requirements, and for you, a convenient place to keep track of your listing’s demands.
Once you’re verified and approved, registered artists can see your listing and contact you directly. Wasn’t that easy?
